The Co-evolution Mechanism of Enterprise Innovation Ecosystem: The Theoretical Framework and Future Research

Abstract

Innovation is the key factor for an individual, an organization and a country to maintain their competitive advantages.Due to the complexity of technological innovation and the dispersion of knowledge, no single entity can carry out major innovation or systematic product supply alone.Therefore, the interdependent innovation ecosystem of multilateral entities has attracted more and more attention in theoretical research and practice.Co-evolution is the core essence of the enterprise innovation ecosystem and the systematic force to promote the sustainable development of innovation,but the increasingly complex and turbulent global environment has brought great challenges to the collaborative evolution of innovation ecosystem, such as epidemic situations, international trade friction, wars and natural disasters.Thus, it is necessary to study the co-evolution mechanism of enterprise innovation ecosystem to promote the steady development of ecosystem and value creation.The co-evolution of participants has always been the central theme of innovation ecology research, but the theoretical system of this research is far from mature.Vertically, the current research basically stays at the level of phenomenon analysis of the evolution process, but there is still a lack of systematic and in-depth discussion on the co-evolution mechanism behind it.Horizontally, the research from different disciplines is insufficient and the development is very uneven.This not only limits the development of ecosystem theory construction, but also hinders the in-depth and complete understanding of innovation ecology.#br#The research on the connotation and characteristics of innovation ecosystem and their collaborative evolution, as well as the construction and evolution of innovation ecosystems, mainly focuses on the fields of strategy and innovation management, with case studies as the main research methods.From the perspective of complexity science, relevant research views the innovation ecosystem as a complex adaptive system, and conducts a theoretical analysis of its self-organization and adaptive mechanisms.Relying on literature research, this study puts forward a theoretical framework for the study of co-evolution mechanism of innovation ecosystem in the hope of laying a foundation for the study on co-evolution mechanism of enterprise innovation ecosystem and figuring out the future research direction.#br#In this study, the relevant literature of high-quality journals at home and abroad from 2017 to 2022 is obtained through keyword search, and the relevant classic literature is collected by snowballing the important scholars and important periodical literature in the retrieved literature.The relevant literature obtained by retrieval is screened, and the relevant literature is classified and sorted according to the research theme, theoretical basis and research methods, and the development context and research theme of the co-evolution research on innovation ecosystem are sorted out.#br#Firstly, the study introduces the related research topics distributed in different disciplines, including the connotation and characteristics of innovation ecosystem and its co-evolution, the construction and evolution processes of innovation ecosystem, and the related research on multi-agent co-evolution mechanisms.Secondly, it proposes a multidisciplinary and comprehensive theoretical framework for the study on the co-evolution mechanism of enterprise innovation ecosystem.Among them, the related research in the field of strategy and innovation management is the foundation, the modeling and simulation of multi-agent co-evolution provide reference for research methods, and the complexity science theory provides a holistic explanation framework.Finally, the study points out the direction, method, path and key situation of future research.The co-evolution mechanism of innovation ecosystem participants is multifaceted and can be discussed in different dimensions, including behavior, structure and function.#br#This study puts forward a multidisciplinary theoretical framework for the study on co-evolution mechanism of innovation ecosystem.This laid a theoretical foundation for the research on the co-evolution mechanism of innovation ecosystem, promoted the co-evolution research of innovation ecosystem from the phenomenon level to the mechanism level, and promoted interdisciplinary research on the co-evolution of innovation ecosystem.In addition, the discussion on future research direction, methods, paths, and key situations reveals potential research opportunities.#br#
