The Influence Mechanism of Status Competition Motivation on Individual Knowledge Sharing Behavior |

Abstract Knowledge sharing behavior is the focus of academic and business circles.Previous literatures have studied knowledge sharing behavior in organizations from multiple angles and levels,but have neglected the status competition motivation hidden behind individual knowledge sharing decisions.Based on the difference of the status competition motivation,this study divides individual status competition motivation into both dominant status competition motivation and prestigious status competition motivation.This paper explores and constructs a process model of the influence of status competition motivation on knowledge sharing behavior,which is mediated by workplace ostracism and moderated by organizational justice climate.630 supervisor-subordinate dyads samples from 13 organizations are used to test the hypothesis.The result of data analysis indicates that dominant status competition motivation negatively affects the knowledge sharing behavior,while prestigious status competition motivation is the opposite,workplace ostracism and organizational justice climate play mediating and moderating effect during the process.The results provide a new perspective and framework for the research of knowledge sharing,It is found that status competition motivation plays a dual role in promoting and restraining knowledge sharing, have a certain practical significance to the practice of enterprise management.
