The Impact of Big Data Capability on Innovation Performance:the Moderation Role of IT-business Alignment and Ambidextrous Environment |

Abstract Based on dynamic capability theory and contingency theory, the paper empirically studies the relationships between big data capability and innovation performance.Moreover, this study examines the moderating effect of IT-business alignment and ambidextrous environment.The results show that big data capability has a significant positive effect on innovation performance.IT-business alignment moderates the relationship between big data capability and innovation performance such that the positive relationship is stronger when IT-business alignment is high rather than when it is low.In addition, ambidextrous environment can moderate the impact of big data capability and innovation performance.It is found that the relationship between big data capability and innovation performance across low, medium, and high levels of environmental dynamism is U-shaped.It is also found that there exist a significant and inverted U-shaped moderating effect of environmental competitiveness on the relationship between big data capability and innovation performance.These findings have important theoretical contributions to the existing literature and also have important practical implications for Chinese firms' successful application of big data in dynamic and competitive environment.
