Abstract More and more attention has been paid to the positive effects of feedback seeking behavior, but the results are not stable when we study it′s impact on performance and creativity from a strategic perspective. The nature of feedback seeking is a combination of strategy and content, which is a more in-depth and detailed behavior of feedback seeking. But from a cognitive perspective, most scholars affirm the value of seeking negative feedback and despise the positive significance of seeking positive feedback. However, as a self-regulation strategy, the activation and adjustment of emotional state should not be neglected. Not only “positive” affects such as encouragement, self-confidence and enthusiasm stimulated by "seeking praise" have no negative effect on creativity, but even “negative” affects such as anxiety, tension and frustration stimulated by "seeking criticism" can promote creativity. Based on the Affective Event Theory, this paper discusses the mechanism of feedback seeking nature on creativity, and analyzes the differential effect of seeking nature on its affective responses from the perspective of creative self-efficacy. 412 pieces of data analysis showed that self-seeking positive and negative feedback are significantly positively correlated with creativity. Activated positive and negative affective reactions are partly mediated by feedback seeking nature and creativity, respectively. In addition, creative self-efficacy positively moderated the positive relationship between negative feedback seeking and negative affective reactions, and positively moderated the positive relationship between positive feedback seeking and positive affective reactions.
