Abstract Implementing large science projects is an important measure to build an innovative country and to enhance international competitiveness for us. Although China has successfully implemented a series of famous large science projects such as "two bombs and one star" and "manned spaceflight", there are still some limitations during the organization and management of the SG project. Based on the current organizational structure of China's large science projects, this paper summarized the existing problems in the SG project through researches and interviews. Then, by drawing lessons from the advanced management thought and experiences of the NIF project and the DARPA organization, this paper put forward some suggestions for the organization of the SG project, in order to provide management support for the implementation of the follow-up large science projects.
