Abstract With the increasing competition in domestic and international markets, enterprises have shifted their green innovation strategies from relying on internal independent research and development to seeking open green innovation through external organizational cooperation.Because of the high degree of specialization and familiarity with the technology processes of downstream enterprises, suppliers' involvement in open green innovation has become an important way for manufacturing enterprises to actively carry out open green innovation.Practical research has found that many manufacturing enterprises lack the ability to restructure resources between enterprises, and the effectiveness of open green innovation (EOGI) in manufacturing enterprises is insufficient.Existing research has shown that pursuing a proactive environmental orientation (PEO) can drive enterprises to actively carry out green innovation and seek pre-planning and coordinated allocation of external green innovation resources. In the process of suppliers' involvement in open green innovation, reasonable orchestration of supplier involvement roles can help manufacturing enterprises achieve pre-planning and coordinated allocation of internal and external green innovation resources based on their own needs. However, whether the PEO can drive manufacturing enterprises to enhance the EOGI through orchestration of supplier involvement roles remains to be further studied. In addition, it is common for manufacturers and suppliers to have varying levels of dependence according to procurement and supply relationships. The changes in structural rights and subjective values caused by this asymmetric dependence (AD) are likely to affect the actual effect of orchestration of supplier involvement roles.Hence, this study explores the path for manufacturing enterprises to enhance the EOGI by pursuing a PEO and driving the orchestration of supplier involvement roles in the context of supplier involvement in open green innovation, as well as the changes in the EOGI in response to the degree of AD.〖HJ*3〗#br#From the perspective of supplier resource orchestration, this study constructs a moderated dual mediation model to explore the mediating effects of supplier involvement as a resource provider (SIRP) and supplier involvement as a co-creator (SIC) between the PEO and EOGI of manufacturing enterprises, as well as how AD moderates them.It selects traditional manufacturing enterprises with greater pressure for green transformation, such as domestic food, textile and transportation equipment manufacturing as samples with 231 sets of valid data obtained, and the research hypotheses are then verified by constructing multiple linear regression and Bootstrap methods.#br#The main findings are as follows.First, in the context of suppliers' involvement in open green innovation in manufacturing enterprises, the PEO significantly positively affects the EOGI.Second, SIRP and SIC play different mediating roles in the relationship between PEO and EOGI in manufacturing enterprises.Third, the AD between manufacturers and suppliers positively moderates the mediating role of SIRP, but negatively moderates the mediating role of SIC.The proportion of mediating effects between the two forms of orchestration of supplier involvement roles vary with the degree of AD.#br#This study has certain guiding significance for enterprises to implement the development policy of innovation-driven green transformation. When suppliers are involved in open green innovation, enterprises can allow suppliers to take on suitable involvement roles. For example, when enterprises have clear goals and implementation methods for green innovation, suppliers should be allowed to be involved in open green innovation as resource providers. When enterprises have vague goals and implementation methods for green innovation, suppliers should be involved in open green innovation as co-creators.In moderate circumstances, to fully leverage the role of suppliers, enterprises should strive to cooperate with suppliers in the development of green new products and new models, timely discuss process issues with suppliers, and exchange the latest technical information and requirements. Moreover, the specific interdependence between manufacturers and suppliers should be fully considered when assigning suppliers' involvement roles. When there is a significant difference in the level of dependence between the two parties, it is important to focus on involving suppliers as resource providers in green innovation to fully utilize the advantages of controllable cooperative behavior brought about by power differences. When the level of dependence is relatively balanced, equal communication opportunities should be seized, allowing suppliers as co-creators to directly involve themselves in the development of green new products and models, and improving the implementation effect of open green innovation.#br#
