Deep Roots Can Make Luxuriant Leaves: The Impact of Maker Team Resilience on Entrepreneurship Success in Adversity |

Abstract Under the wave of "mass entrepreneurship and innovation", maker, as the most innovative human resources group, plays an important role in promoting social innovation development and entrepreneurial practice.However,aginst the backdrop of high uncertainty and a low entrepreneurial success rate, most maker teams are confronted with the realistic dilemma of survival in adversity, and only a small proportion of maker teams can break through adversities and achieve entrepreneurial success.Since existing researches on maker team mainly focuses on the impact of predictable factors inside and outside the team on the innovation ability and team performance of maker team, and pay more attention to the positive impact of entrepreneurial resilience on entrepreneurial success.There is a lack of in-depth explanation of how the maker team breaks through the adversities and strives for entrepreneurial success under the current high uncertainty, and the impact of team resilience on entrepreneurship success is ignored.Therefore, it is of great theoretical significance and practical value to explore the formation of maker team resilience and its impact on entrepreneurial success.#br#By the multi-case study method, 21 maker teams at different stages of development are selected as the case analysis object.This paper profoundly explains the impact of the maker team resilience on entrepreneurial success in adversity.Primary data are obtained mainly through in-depth interviews, while secondary data includes archives, relevant journal articles and web pages.In the process of data analysis, 61 first-order concepts, 21 second-order themes and 10 aggregate constructs are obtained by using structured data analysis method to encode the data.In the end, this paper refines the theoretical framework of "the impact of adversity events (external changes)→the formation of maker team resilience (deep roots)→entrepreneurial success (dense leaves)".#br#The findings are as follows.First, maker team resilience is a dynamic combination of a series of abilities that match the team's response to the impact of external adversity events.For normal adversity, maker team resilience consists of absorptive ability, integration ability and adjustment ability; for sudden adversity, maker team resilience consists of absorptive ability, response ability and transformation ability.Second, maker team resilience has a significant positive impact on entrepreneurial success.Although the ability composition of maker team resilience remains the same at different stages of team development, the specific manifestation of the ability is gradually enriched, which makes the impact of maker team resilience on entrepreneurial success different.The deeper the "roots" of the maker team resilience, the more likely it is to eventually achieve entrepreneurial success (dense leaves).Finally, the ecological metaphor "root→branch→grow leaves" is used as a progressive stage measure of entrepreneurial success, corresponding to the three development stages of the maker team's product prototype, pre-product promotion and product marketization.#br#The major contributions of this paper are summarized.First, taking the maker team as the pre-entrepreneurial stage, this paper expounds on the ability of the maker team to resist adverse events and its key influence on the success of entrepreneurship, providing a new idea for the transformation from the maker to the entrepreneur.Second, this study deconstructs the formation process of maker team resilience by dynamically matching adversity events, which not only provides a theoretical reference for the subsequent research on team resilience, but also enriches the application of resilience at the team level in the field of entrepreneurship.Third, this paper brings maker team resilience into the consideration of entrepreneurial success, and discusses the relationship between maker team resilience and entrepreneurial success.It not only enriches the research on the antecedents of entrepreneurial success, but also improves the research on the consequences of team resilience.Finally, it defines the connotation of entrepreneurial success, puts forward the progressive logic of the entrepreneurial success of maker team, and measures the entrepreneurial success by non-financial performance indicators, broadening the research boundary of entrepreneurial success.In practice, in order to break through adversity, maker team needs to respond to the needs of each stage and improve its resilience.In particular, entrepreneurship success cannot be achieved overnight, which means it needs to conform to the law of phased and gradual development.#br#
