Abstract Under open environment,it is an important mean for firms to get access to external resources through innovative search as to enhance enterprises' innovation performance,and the study about the process mechanism that how innovative search affects innovation performance is still insufficient. Based on the innovative search theory and network capability theory,this paper constructs a theoretical model of the relationship among the innovation search,network capability and innovation performance,and makes an empirical study of 183 manufacturing enterprises in the Jiangsu,Zhejiang and Shanghai in China. The results show that:①both of innovative search (the depth and the breadth) and network capability have a significant positive correlation with the innovation performance; ②the depth and the breadth of innovative search both drive enterprise network capability and,in turn,further enhance enterprise innovation performance,and the network capability plays a complete mediating role in the relationship between innovation search and innovation performance;③the impact of search breadth on network capability is larger than that of search depth.
