Abstract This paper explores the cognitive roots of the transformation dilemma and the rigidity of OEMs from the perspective of knowledge search mechanism. The transformation and upgrading of OEMs are faced with dual lock between the suppression from the core enterprises embedded in the global value chain and the endogenous conflict of the knowledge search mechanism, which constitutes an asymmetric structure with knowledge search and capability generation, and further leads to the "transformation dead zone" and survival dilemma for the OEMs. Therefore, we should construct a knowledge search and accumulation mechanism which can balance the endogenous conflict and external suppression in the dimensions of knowledge search method, organizational structure, incentive mechanism, support mechanism and so on. Finally eliminating the "transformation dead zone" of OEMs, promoting the OEMS transform and upgrade continuously.
