Abstract It constructs a panel data of energysaving and powersaving patents from 1999 to 2013 based on key frequency statistics method from the perspective of patent information and analyzes the influence of energy efficiency label system on technological progress using patent number, the relative output of patents and technical focus and other indexes, explores the inductive effect of product information label on technological innovation from the perspective of energy efficiency labeling system. It finds that, firstly, energy efficiency rate signal is the key for energy efficiency labeling system to induce technological progress; secondly, energy efficiency labeling system has a prominently positive impact on energysaving and electricitysaving patent, which means it has significant inductive effect on technological innovation; thirdly, energy efficiency labeling system not only can improve the ratio of energysaving and electricitysaving as well as the ratio of watersaving patent to all patents, that is, this policy has significant inductive effect on technological innovation; fourthly, energy efficiency labeling system exerts a stronger inductive effect on more innovative patent for invention. Thus, improving the energy efficiency labeling system and promoting product information label are conducive to technological advancement and sustainable development of society.
