Abstract Based on the classification-identification-comparative analysis framework of social identity theory, introduces joint action, relationship identification and knowledge diversity of firms on technology alliance into the reaction mechanism to realize firm innovation performance, constructs a three factors interactive adjustment model of joint action, relationship identification and knowledge diversity, and explores the generation mechanism of firm innovation performance. Based on hypothesis test of 428 survey data of water environment treatment firms, the results show that: joint action has a positive impact on firm innovation performance; relationship identification positively regulates the impact of joint action on firm innovation performance; Inter firm knowledge diversity positively moderates the moderating effect of relationship identification between joint problem solving dimension of joint action and firm innovation performance; However, the moderating effect of inter-firm knowledge diversity on the moderating effect of relational identity between joint cognitive dimension of joint action and firm innovation performance is not significant.
