Abstract 3D printing has been considered a disruptive innovation owing to its technical and economical traits, and the application and business model that match these traits can enhance the disruptiveness of 3D printing and lead to social change.This paper first discussed about the current situation of 3D printing applications based on the theory of disruptive innovation, which is concluded as the social manufacturing.Then this paper analyzed the business model of social manufacturing from the perspective of value network, including the components of value network and their relationships, with the cases of Shapeways and Thingiverse.Finally, this paper discussed about the current shortcomings of 3D printing development in China and provided specific suggestions for future development.
