The results show that:(1) the strength of small and microsized new ventures’ external relationship has inverted U influence on the innovation performance, and the extensive of external relationship has a positive role on innovation performance; (2) there is an inverted U type relationship between relational strength and complementary knowledge integration, while relational strength can promote auxiliary knowledge integration, and the relational extensive can promote both complementary knowledge integration and auxiliary knowledge integration; (3) the dual knowledge integration of complementary and auxiliary play intermediary role between external relational capital and innovation performance. This research can deepen the theoretical understanding of the “paradox of relational capital”, but also provide useful insights for the enterprises’ management practice of knowledge integration.
