Abstract Creative deviance has attracted more and more scholars' attention. However, the research about what factors influencing creative deviance is still in the exploring stage.Based on the interactionist theories of creativity, we create a theoretical model to investigate how perceived underemployment influence turnover intention. The moderating role of LMX and LMX differentiation are also explored.By using HLM with the data from 46 teams including 220 employees, we obtained the following results.First, perceived underemployment is positively related to creative deviance.Second, LMX is negatively related to creative deviance.Third, LMX moderates the relationship between perceived underemployment and creative deviance, that is, with the level of LMX increasing, the positive relationship between perceived underemployment and creative deviance becomes weaker. Finally, LMX differentiation is positively related to creative deviance.
